Introducing Intuitive Consultations

July 2017

Free Sessions and Survey

Lately I’ve been collecting feedback and going through several survey responses after offering free intuitive sessions over the past month, with the intention of helping people connect with their own intuition. Based on the feedback I received, these sessions were appreciated not only for helping to access one’s intuition, but also for understanding chakras better, gaining more confidence about using intuitive abilities after the session, and were also described as healing for some.

The sessions were done face-to-face, over the phone, via Skype, and even walking side by side upon request! Sometimes we had to get a little creative in order to communicate – for example, during one Skype session in which someone’s microphone and chat function wasn’t functioning properly, we made use of the video setting and she wrote her comments and questions on paper before holding them up to the camera so I could see them.

Everyone varied in terms of what they hoped to get out of the sessions. Some people wanted more insight regarding a particular problem, while others were keen to work on obstacles preventing them from tapping into their intuition. There were also those who simply asked to learn how to use their intuitive ability better or to feel their own chakras for themselves.

Although I did plan to have 30-minute sessions with everybody, they ended up lasting anywhere from around 20 minutes to almost 3 hours. For the majority of cases though, the sessions went up to an hour or so. Some people were already very experienced with tuning in to their own energy and spiritual guidance, while others said they had never tried to do this before.

There was often an element of counselling during the sessions as well as advice and broader discussion about how to feel guided in various life areas. I started using the term ‘consultations’ after a while, as this seems to communicate the nature of what was involved a little better than the generic word, ‘sessions’.

Intuitive Consultations vs. Readings

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first started offering these consultations, but I enjoyed each and every one of them. In a way, they were more fulfilling for me compared to standard intuitive readings because most people went away from the session saying that they felt more empowered and confident about being better able to connect to their intuition again in future.

Another positive thing about the consultations was that I didn’t have to worry about any ‘shoot the messenger’ scenarios (i.e. people being annoyed or upset with me for passing on information that they didn’t want to hear!) By having people tuned in and experiencing things for themselves, I never had to share a message that didn’t resonate with anyone.

"Why Would Anyone Choose This Over a Reading?"

One person raised the concern that it seemed like an unnecessary waste of effort to tune in and receive his own answers, when he could just as easily book a reading and have a professional intuitive pass on answers more quickly. Although willing enough to try out an intuitive consultation (and satisfied enough to provide positive feedback afterwards, to my relief!) he did ask a valid question before we got started: “Why would anyone choose this over a reading?”

The first thing to consider is that experiencing something for yourself is very different from having someone else do it for you. It’s true that this won’t necessarily appeal to everybody. For many things, it is much nicer to sit back and relax into an experience. I would rather enjoy a rollercoaster ride than operate it, for instance – but there are other situations where it makes sense to learn to do something on your own.

As an example, if you want to learn ballet you wouldn’t ask the dance teacher, “Why would I pay you to show me how to dance when I can just watch you perform?” It’s the same with any form of creativity. Why would you ever cook when you can simply buy a meal instead? Why learn to draw when you can admire someone else’s artwork? Why sing when you can just turn on the radio?

So, going back to the question, “Why would anyone choose this over a reading?” I would say that it’s because it can be as enjoyable and satisfying as having an intuitive reading, if not more so. If you consider intuitive ability to be comparable to a form of art, then having an intuitive consultation is kind of like being shown how to ‘paint’ with it :)

Helping Hand

Another factor to take into account is how much easier it is to learn or improve at any skill when another person can show you how to do it and lend a helping hand at times. It’s a bit like going for a hike in an unknown wilderness area, and having the benefit of a guide or a map so you can be reassured that you won’t get lost, which allows you to relax and take in the scenery.

Instead of navigating a forest, an intuitive consultation gives you the opportunity to navigate your own energy and consciousness. Instead of having a map of the trail, you’ll be ‘mapping’ your chakras and spiritual connection. And rather than looking at trees, you’ll be looking at issues in your life that you want clarity on.

I was grateful to have a professional driving instructor with me when I was learning to drive. She helped guide me through the process of operating a manual car with the added bonus of having dual brakes. She rarely used those brakes but just knowing that they were there and that she was looking out for me helped to put my mind at ease.

By contrast, my first cycling experience was pretty awful. A well-meaning family friend instructed me to get up onto a bike that was too high for me to touch my feet to the ground while sitting on it, and for the next hour or so I was pushed on the bike repeatedly in an attempt to somehow make me learn how to cycle like a pro. At the end of the day, with bruises all over my body, I wished I could have started with training wheels, or used a smaller bike that was more manageable, or at the very least have someone look out for me to check where the bike was likely to go after being pushed (preferably not into a tree or gutter).

Admittedly, exploring intuition is not necessarily a scary thing and should certainly never leave you covered in bruises! But it can be nice to know that during an intuitive consultation, I’m tuned in for the whole process too so that I can point out if I’m feeling the same thing as you, or direct you to see more about your chakras or situation – especially if there’s something highlighted for me that you may not be feeling yet.

Power in Pairs

One last thing to remember is that there’s value in having someone else do the same activity with you, and exploring intuition is no exception. I remember playing the guitar with my brother years ago after he had just learnt a new song – there’s an added element of fun that comes with playing a duet that differs from either using an instrument alone or from hearing someone else play. To have two people tuned in to energy and spiritual connection at the same time can be more powerful than when you’re doing it on your own, particularly at the beginning.
